How to Protect Your Pet from FleasSaving Money on Flea Control Products

The best flea control medications can be shockingly expensive. Depending on where you live, how big your pet is, and what flea control product you want to use one single dose can be over $20. So if you want to use high quality flea control medications without spending a fortune here are some way that you can get the flea control products you want to use without spending more than you have to:

· Buy in bulk – When you buy a year’s worth of flea control products at a time you can really save a lot of money. The up front hit of the cost might be hard to absorb but over the course of the year or the six month period that you give your pet flea preventative you really do end up saving a lot of money. Buying all of your medications at once also saves you time and money because you won’t need to come back to the vet each month to get the next dose.

· Buy online – If you use flea prevention medicines that are available online you can save big by ordering them online. Order a year’s worth at a time online and you can end up saving almost half the cost of the medication if you order from the right places and take advantage of sales, discounts and coupons.

· Use the same flea medication for all of your pets – Even if you’re tempted to put your dogs on a different flea preventative than your cats because you think the dogs need more coverage you should use the same flea preventative for all of them so that you can buy in bulk and save more.

· Look for sprays- If you have multiple pets look for flea preventatives that come in sprays because a spray is much economical than individual doses if you have more than one pet. Sprays can also be saved and reused if there’s any left while single dose packages can’t.

· Only use flea control products during the summer – While most vets and pet health professionals say that you should treat your pet for fleas all year round if you live in an area where the cold winters kill off most of the fleas during six months or so of the year then you can get by with just using flea medication for six months of year. Make sure that you start giving flea medication before the spring thaw so that your pet is protected before the fleas start coming out in droves but once it gets cold in the fall you can stop giving them the flea medication until the spring.

· Ask for a payment plan – If you are buying flea control medications at your vet’s office then you probably are pretty well known to your vet. Ask if you can work out a payment plan that will allow you to buy your pet’s flea and heartworm medications all at once and then pay it off over time. Most vets will usually work with you because you are already their client.
